That depends on what you consider useful. I feel frequently frustrated in
seminars like that because you cannot ask the teacher questions. That is,
you can ask them but they usually don't know the answers because they
have noo firm grasp of the material. (Rob has already mentioned this.)

This is not only frustrating for some of the students - who would do just
as well watching a video at their own convenience - but can also lead to
the teacher be ripped apart (intelelctually, not physically ;-) by some
of the more impatient attendees.

All in all, I'd avoid a situation like that if at all possible.
