Frankly, I've never been in a situation where my boss has come into my cube and
picked up papers from my desk and reviewed them. The very fact that your's did and
didn't seem interested in accepting your comment that it was a very rough draft not
meant for other's eyes, is also not a good sign. As to whether or not you're being
set up, I couldn't judge, especially based solely on what you wrote, but I kinda
believe your boss doesn't like either you or your work. Possibly both.

Now as for drafts, in general I don't do them. I put the information together as
best I can and send it out for review. I tend to have spell checkers and grammar
checkers on, though the grammar checker is mostly for my amusement as it seldom
understands sophisticated writing, imho. <g> I also tend to be one of those writers
who edits himself as he writes. I do a lot of stop, backup, and restart writing. I'm
not saying my way is the best, but it's how I write best. YMMV.

I do read my own stuff offline, because it does give me a different perspective. I
also find that no matter what I tell SMEs, they WILL give me spelling, grammar,
punctuation 'help', some of which occasionally is helpful. <g>

Mostly, I'm a get it out the door writer at work. It ain't Shakespeare or Kafka or
even Jackie Collins. It's technical writing. Keep it simple and get it done on time:
accurate, complete, and correct. Too much drafting, again imo, can (may not be, but
can be) a sign of being too careful for what is needed. It can also be way too slow
for a modern business.
