ioctl is a UNIX function call, not jargon. Windows and Mac geeks will likely not know what the heck
you are talking about if you use it as jargon. High-level UNIX geeks (Java programmers, etc) may not
even know. If you are writing device driver documentation, go for it, otherwise you had best spell
out what you mean.

pronunciation: ioctl -- eye-oh-kottle (everywhere I have worked)
