Gerd, absolutely. As I mentioned in the postscript of my earlier post. I am NOT
trying to slander Germans. I was just raising my experience and wondering if it led
to a more general set of expectations. There are plenty of Americans in my
acquaintance for whom the printed word is gospel (with both a small and a large G).
Before I took up writing for a living, I was one of those. Once I began to see my
own stuff in print, I realized how foolish that notion is.
But a lot of people, in a lot of parts of the world, view anything that appears in
print as the Truth. (My experience just happened to involve a German.)
