Moreover, what platform do you think most (good) hackers use? Windows? No, they
use Linux or BSD. Most (good) hackers have no idea how the inner-workings of
Windows servers work. But they know Linux up down and sideways. Which means they
are many times more likely to be able to find new holes in Linux than Windows.

The crypotology community - which concerns it self with nothing _but_ security - has long since decided unequivocally that security can only be had through complete transparency of the algorithms.

Put another way: If you don't know what it does, you must consider it insecure. Linux may or may not be secure; Windows cannot be secure unless Microsoft publishes the source code.
