I too took unconventional route to tech writing success! ;-)

1) Take two years of Music Education and add two years Electrical Engineering.
2) Stir in a couple of years of Religion and Philosophy and add an Associates degree in EE technology.
3) Bake at high heat for three years in manufacturing.

And out comes a fresh new technical writer...a little crispy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside.
