Not quite true. I'm not unemployed; those who attend our chapter
meetings are neither unemployed nor 'empire builders.' Those who are not
employed do not participate in our meetings, even though such meetings
might be more of a help to them than for the rest of us.

Why? Topics discussed at our meetings always involve projects underway
or accomplished; the information to be gleaned includes examples of
tools use, handling the various political climates that play with the
project, personalities, and authoring techniques.

Also, since the majority of those who attend are employed, they are more
likely to know of jobs available or companies who are recruiting, as
well as various particulars with each.

I understand that some people have had indifferent or worse experiences
with STC chapters or the overall organization, but blanket condemnations
are useless.
