Thanks, Richard (and all others who commented). I'm already familiar with
the concept of OLE. I just thought that it was funny that this "magical
ability" added so much "overhead." Classic MS. It takes only a few
additional keystrokes to open the original VSD, re-save it as the PNG, and
re-insert the PNG. And when I've got a lot of graphics in a document, the
overhead really starts to add up. Not to mention the file corruption
issues you raised...
