True. But, I have heard users say "I can't find the information that I am looking for", even when it is there, buried somewhere in a mass of 10 point Courier.

I firmly straddle the fence in the discussion of content and style (which may explain that itching, burning sensation. Never mind).

On the one hand, it seems self-evident to me that a writer of any sort needs content, and no amount of design excellence makes up for content.

On the other hand, I have studied typography reasonably extensively. I doubt that I'm up to professional levels, but I do routinely incorporate my knowledge into my work for clients. I don't know how many times, after I've been told that the design doesn't matter by a client that the first comment I've received on the deliverable is some variation of "Wow! That's impressive-looking."

This scenario has happened so many times that I can only conclude that even those who say that they don't care about design can still be swayed by good design.
