My Ventura use is dated, also.

I used FrameMaker from version 3 to 7, mostly versions 4, 5.5.6, and 6.

I intensively used Ventura 3, 4, and 4.2. I dabbled in 5.0 and 7. I have
8 and used it once.

In my experience, after 4.2, Ventura is packed with features, has a
slick gui, is unproductively unstable, many features don't work, and
there is no consideration for cross-plaform and multiple languages (not
that FrameMaker is outstanding in the translated-GUI area, either).
FrameMaker has less features, an efficient but un-Microsofty GUI, and is
stable and robust, and therefore efficiently productive. Also, with
things like Mif2Go and WWP Pro, Enhance, IXgen, and FrameScript,
FrameMaker can go where you want it to . . . or not. FrameMaker is also
pretty light on its feet and is not a resource hog.

Cheers,

Sean

Could anyone who has used both Ventura and Frame for
tech pubs please comment on how the two compared for
this use?

Unfortunately, my Ventura experience is quite dated.
However, I am soon to be in a position to advise a
company on what product to use for their upcoming tech
pubs department. Thus, a comparison by those who have
used both would be very helpful.
