"The Web Ontology Language (OWL) is intended to provide a language that can be used to describe the classes and relations between them that are inherent in Web documents and applications."

I'm about to read this article at http://www.w3.org/TR/owl-guide/

My only question is, why didn't they use the initialism Wol, A.A. Milne's pedantic owl from his Winnie the Pooh stories? Makes a lot more sense to me.
