Don't worry, healthy software shops employ technical writers
(notwithstanding the current slowdown). If that company was
actually profitable by making a product somebody wanted to buy,
the recruiter would have bought you a drink and asked you for
your resume.
Notice where you met this guy -- you didn't meet him at a
"product launch party" or a "profit-sharing party".
With his attitude, your recruiter friend is destined to fulfill
his own expectations by hiring only low-paid borderline writers.
Until the day his company goes under. You dodged a bullet.
