I think the idea of "recipe writing" makes the whole concept of tech writing
pretty clear to many people.

For a "what my daddy does at work" day in school in January, I plan to have
the class figure out the instructions on how to make a peanut butter and
jelly sandwich. I'll bring a couple of loaves of bread, some cutlery (no
knives, apparently) and jars of the basic ingredients.

I will literally follow the instructions the kids (4th graders) give me
precisely. That will probably result in putting bread on the outside of the
loaf, on the wrong side of the bread, and the like. My goal is to show kids
how "obvious" instructions may not be so obvious, how you can't make
assumptions, when to use images, and to make them laugh.

I suspect they'll be more interested in this basic recipe than how to
document a NIPLA letter for emissions violations.
