Hi gang,

I got a lot of private emails from folks about the security post. Its good to
hear that a lot of you are taking security issues seriously. As purverors of
information, tech writers are uniquely valuable to a would be hacker. As such,
its important to remain vigilent.

A few people asked about how to increase the security on their home and work
machines. One suggestion is check out my white paper: Hardening Windows 2000 at
http://www.anitian.com/corp/papers/Hardening_Win2k.pdf (edits and comments are
welcome!) I just revised this with a second edition.

You Linux geeks might want to check out Amouring Linux from noted security guru
Lance Spitzner: http://www.spitzner.net/linux.html

Lance also has some great papers on Solaris as well.

Also, check out www.securityfocus.com . Its a geek site but there are a lot of
great papers on security issues. Another place of information is the SANS
institute www.sans.org.

Most importantly - use common sense. Be careful with information. It is a
commodity.

Snorky snorky

Andrew Plato
