Rob Partridge reports a document in which <<...facing pages contain tables
that match in contents. For example, in a row on
the left page, there would be a requirement and description, and on the
right page, a solution and a description... this is being maintained by
using a single large table and manually adding and subtracting spaces to
make the cells in each page line
up... Is there any way to get a table to straddle pages horizontally in
Word?>>

Can't think of any obvious way to accomplish that specific task, but I can
think of a simple workaround that will accomplish the same results with much
less pain: insert a section break, format the table pages in landscape
format, then take advantage of the wider page width to let you fit both
columns on a single landscape-format page. Word will let you format the
table so that the column headings will repeat automatically on each page.
(Look in the Help index under "tables" and the subheading "headings"... Word
97, so YMMV with other versions.)

"Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the
earth's surface relative to other matter; second, telling other people to do
so. The first is unpleasant and ill-paid; the second is pleasant and highly
paid."--Bertrand Russell
