Here's my trick for dealing with this circumstance.

We're using custom toolbars with buttons for the various styles. If using the buttons doesn't change the style (similar to your problem), plan B is to strong-arm the paragraph by highlighting it, choosing the style from the list box, and choosing "Reapply style..." (or whatever the precise wording is...)

Works like a charm. I also do not know what prevents the styles from changing sometimes, but I do know that this method works.

If that doesn't work, and it generally does for me as well as it does for Maggie,
you might try then highlighting the text in the paragraph and selecting "Default
Paragraph Font." I've had that work when simply changing the style to a different
tag has not worked.

But I have no idea why changing style tags occasionally doesn't work. It must be a
feature. <g>
