I have encountered candidates who hesitate to submit writing samples. When I
review samples, I am really trying to assess whether 1) the person possesses
basic writing skills (which I cannot really assess from edited work) but
more importantly 2) has the person written about products that are similar
to the ones our company has? What I am trying to get out of the whole
interview process is whether this person can pick up on our company's
software because it is large and complex. If they have worked on similar
products, I feel a little better about how they might tackle the learning
curve.
