In fact, *every* computer file is a binary file. To
say that a file can be in binary format or some other
format makes no sense.

The key point is knowing how to interpret the string
of ones and zeros that make up the file. Can the file
be interpreted by using a text editor, a graphics
processing program, or a specific program such as
Microsoft Word, Excel, or Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat,
or some other specialized tool? This is what your
users need to know.
