I'm only on my third job of my professional career. Two of them were found through contacts, one through a recruiter back in the boom. I've gotten interviews through ads on targeted job boards, so I wouldn't say they're a complete waste of time.

I'm wondering if the writers who are saying they've got most jobs through
contacts have all been in the business a long time.
