Having observed my in-laws in their "let's explore America in a motorhome" phase, I'd suggest you consider a nice trailer and a pickup or large SUV to tow it with.

With this rig, you can park the trailer at a KOA and drive around the area more easily. Motorhomes are nice on a freeway but they are a PITA to drive in city traffic and on narrow, remote scenic by-ways.

Alternatively, you could tow your car behind your motor home, that is another PITA.
