Why don't I get those looks?

While we're on the topic of stereotypes, one that I loathe is the "oh,
you're
an idiot" stare I get from people when I tell them I was a technical writer
in
my past.

Thus, I have to append that revelation with: "When I say tech writer, I mean
a
technical, technical writer who actually understands the material - not a
desktop publisher type." This usually prompts a nod and a loud "ohhhh, I
know
what you mean" from whomever I am talking to.

I wish I didn't have to do that, but the font-fondlers have contaminated a
lot
of people with their passionate dedication to ignorance.
