I used to teach ESL (very amateurishly), and took a continuing ed course on teaching a foreign language. One of my fellow students was named Bob, a Canadian of Japanese heritage (2nd generation), who was going to teach English in Japan. I had visions of him trying to tell Japanese citizens that he didn't speak Japanese.

Tech writer tie-in: I'm a tech writer now.
