That doesn't surprise me, really. I run into that fairly regularly where I work
too. I think you gain more geek points by appearing smart by bandying terms
about, rather than actually being smart. Being smart may result in change. But
mastering the illusion of appearing smart means maximum gain with minimal

My partner in crime and I are kept gainfully employed in a company that
doesn't understand it's OWN jargon. We have accumulated a glossary of
over 1,000 terms, many of which are company or industry specific. Yet
we still run across acronyms, abbreviations, and other terms that
people are using daily but that they do not know the meaning of!

It seems incredible to us, even after five-plus years, but, as I said,
the checks are good. It's a weird world where people use terms they
don't even understand.
