If we did that, we'd probably have people replying to one thread but
sneaking in comments on the other threads--or just posting a "My
thoughts for the day" post covering a bunch of different threads. Either
way, we'd wind up with a lot of relevant comments archived in the wrong
thread or no thread at all, rather than having them neatly organized in
the proper threads.

If we had to have a limit, let's at least make it three posts, or
four... Or maybe find a way to discourage the kind of one- and two-line
posts that tend to pile up when people go back and forth. (Slashdot has
filters that reject your post if you quickly dash off something short
and hit Submit. Maybe something analogous here? A
short-and-numerous-posts filter? Does the listserv bot have any options
like that?)
