I resisted bolding GUI components for a long time (sometimes winning and
sometimes losing that argument). I finally embraced bolding when I began
encountering interfaces with sentence case (or all lower case), "natural
language" labels.

That's the same reason why our team embraced bolding as well. That kind of
capitalization seems to be on the upswing, so bolding probably will be as well.
There's just no easy way to refer to

without some sort of stylistic device, and bolding is one with the fewest
dual-use issues.
