A lot of very helpful ideas have been offered. I will certainly followed up on the notes that make sense from where I am sitting. However, Phoenix jobs are mostly in-house, and certainly my product is an in-house product that is not being marketed outside of the company. (And I have done in-house internal marketing writing, including white papers, but that idea gave me another idea... I could read through technical articles and white papers and summarize them for my group, etc.)

If anyone has more ideas that address the needs of a writer who doesn't have an external product available for marcom, let me know. In the meantime, I really do have a lot of ideas to chew on. I am also thinking I need to discern what the market looks like locally and/or how many contracts are off-site, long-distance contracts for marcom.

In addition, I know there are others out there who do work in places that market their products externally who will also benefit from the great ideas from Lyn and Gene.
I will check out Beth's resource too!
