Actually, title are an issue, especially if they are perceived as management
title among your worker-peers. Let's face it. We've all come across those
who feel it is below their station to have to dirty themselves with working
with the great unwashed. Yet, sometimes, they have something you
need...knowledge, permission, gateway to needed resource.

If they perceive you as a peer by title, your job of getting
past/around/through/over them is just a little easier.

Also...many companies come with greater discretionary budget based on title.
Would you rather have to spend 3 days convincing purchasing that you need a
software for $1500, or just buy it because $3,000 of spending allowance
comes with the title?

Therefore, if there is a title available, I'll take it. I won't do a better
or worse effort because of it, but it may help getting what I need.

future. She then explained that it likely wouldn't be called a management
position, but that wouldn't matter because she knows titles aren't important
to me. I guess that's what she gathered from my discomfort about the Team
Lead thing..that titles aren't important to me.
