There is no one golden way of getting useful customer
feedback.

You need to approach the usefulness of the
documentation from many different angles.

Users' input is hardly ever useful. They (collective)
will tell you what they (individually) want.

You need to measure the docs' usefulness by talking to
Tech Support, collecting topic access data online (if
possible... Google "webtrends"), talking to
business/industry SMEs, and of course the ever-popular
reader survey (which you get better results with if
online in a simple, direct manner.

There are other means as well. The point is to never
look for one stop shopping when it comes to gathering
data with which to better your documentation.
