"Subset" is technically inaccurate. "Derivation" is a
better term.

We're all right, in a way. Both are structured forms
of markup. And, XML is more "rigid", intentionally so,
so it lends itself easier to a wide variety of
transformations. But, you *can* do with XML what you
can with SGML, and vice versa.

The real point to remember was just stated on-list:
technology advancements are banking on XML, not SGML.
My guess is that this is due to XML's "moldable rigidity".
