I disagree. I've worked in a wide variety of
environments, from "you know what you're doing, run
with your ideas and we'll support you" to "I though I
told you to use 2 spaces after a period and write in
passive voice only!". Seriously. :-|

Anyway, no matter what environment you work in, having
a business focus will only be in your favor. How much
influence you'll have, well, that's another story.
But, a business perspective will help you align your
work with the direction of the company, which is a
very good thing.
