Excuse me for being punctilious. First, you mean StarOffice. StarOffice is a proprietary version of OpenOffice.org, which is possible because OpenOffice.org is released under two licences, one of which allows proprietary derivatives.

Second, while Sun released the source code for OpenOffice.org, it doesn't own the code, and cannot reclaim it. Sun contributed the code, and still contributes resources to OpenOffice.org, but the project would continue - although weakened - if Sun withdrew that support. Not that Sun's motives probably weren't as described, but they're really not the main point any more.

(David, I'm sure, knows these facts, but I want to make them clear to others who aren't familiar with the subject)
