It won't work with automatic numbering. However, numbering will appear in the bookmarks if he types the numbers manually as part of the heading.

A colleague of mine has the following problem and unfortunately I'm unable
to help him: He uses numbering in the headings of the Word document and he
wants the numbering to be displayed in the bookmarks tab in the navigation
pane when he converts the document to pdf using Distiller 4.0. However, only
