When I was doing cold calls, I went to the business library and found a directory of high-tech companies in town. This very useful directory listed the upper management of each company.

I sent my very brief cold-call letter and resume to the Director of R and D in each company, and followed up with a phone call a week later. Out of 100 letters, I got eight interviews, and from those interviews, landed a nice contract that went a year and a half.
