I agree. No amount of whining will change the fact that Adobe has,
apparently, abandoned the Mac platform for FrameMaker development.

FrameMaker has been developed sluggishly not just on the Mac but on all platforms for many years. (After all, so far there is feature parity.)

On the recent congress of Tekom (the German equivalent to STC), people close to Adobe strongly hinted that Adobe is considering a "PageMaker solution" for FrameMaker, i.e., releasing one final version and then trying to shift users to InDesign (to be beefed up with technical documentation functions, apparently).

So everybody may face the decision whereto to shift from FrameMaker in the medium term (2 to 5 years?).

To me, XML-based workflows look increasingly attractive, not least because they would free us from the constraints of proprietary document formats. Of course, many advantages that FrameMaker offers are not there yet in XML applications. But the frenetic pace of development in this area (not FrameMaker ;-) promises to change that rapidly. And anyway, we're talking about preparing for the medium future, not about today.

Regards
Jan Henning
