I just use the Google Toolbar. Type in "What is <term>?" and hit Enter (without
the quotation marks).

The first item returned is a Web Definition of the requested word or
acronym. It's quick and fun.

That *is* cool, though it's just an interface to wordnet, which has been around for quite a while:

Nice for exploring words, but not something I'd use as an authority.

As long as we're trotting out our favorite toys, I'll mention dictionary.com, which feeds your search into a bunch of online dictionaries, and bartleby.com, which has an *obscene* amount of really good material online, including the American Heritage dictionary and the Columbia Desk Encyclopedia.
