Dan:

Thanks for the info about INCLUDETEXT. It will come in
handy, but it doesn't really solve my problem. I've
been trying to come up with a home-cooked CMS (company
won't shell out the bucks for a commercial system) and
have been experimenting with the processes needed in
order to separate content into original source files.
I was hoping to find a way to have a CR that points to
a particular page number in a different document.

Actually, it is possible but not at a cost I'm not
willing to pay. I followed the links in your reply,
and read the article there about cross-file links.
There is a process whereby I can have reference that
include page numbers in other files, but it is
complicated and tedious. I'd have to insert and edit
fields in both documents, and the referenced docuement
would have to contain page number fields, which I'm
not sure could be kept updated easily.

Basically, the answer to my question is the same as it
so often is in Word: there is a way it can be done,
but the procedure is a giant pain. Frankly, I've
decided that it just isn't worth it. The procedure for
setting up cross-file page number references is just
too much work for too little result.

Thanks for your input. It's helped me relearn some
stuff about Word that will come in handy.
