Unfortunately, I think that most such headphones tend to be
designed to do the least filtering in the range of human
voices (the notion being that you want to screen out mechanical
and wind noise, but that you want to still be aware when people
address you... or shout "Fire!" or "Free money!" or whatever).

wiring conduits between floors were insufficient.
