I agree with k k.

Last night, the EVP of Quality Assurance sent out an email to the whole
company explaining why he created a second QA department for checking
Programmer Code (as opposed to Application QA that we've all seen (we
have that too)). Following is a piece of his email explaining why:

"Like most people, programmers are not the best people to check their
own work. Programmers like to program, not to test. Also, programmers
(like everyone else) tend to follow the same mental paths (and make the
same assumptions) that they did when they did the original work when
they review it. This second problem can be avoided somewhat by asking
programmers to trade programs with each other for review and unit test,
but the first problem is still unavoidable."

Likewise, just as programmers follow the same mental path, so do
writers.
