Hi folks,
I think this is along the lines of the glorified secretary comment recently
posted.

When I first started working here, I shared the office with another desk.
That desk was used for whoever/whatever. Usually the sysadmin used it to
stash stuff and to build pcs, which often made it very difficult to
concentrate. So one day my boss said the second desk was leaving. I then
started to clear it off. This was after making it well known to HR that I
couldn't concentrate on my work with others in here talking etc.

Needless to say, the sysadmin got in a huff because I moved something of
his, and he went to an owner (his boss, different than mine). That owner
(not my boss) came to me and asked why I moved it. I told him my boss said
so because I was getting the office to myself. Then this owner says "for
what you do you have plenty of room", meaning half of an 8x12 office was
enough for me "for what I do". This really ticked me off and I complained
to my boss, diplomatically of course.

The next day I had a new big monitor in a box sitting on the floor in my
office, compliments of that owner.

It just goes to show you though, of what people really think of tech
writers. And I think my boss's protoge actually thinks she can do, in word,
what I do in Quark. She questioned my tools once, and I fired back to her
saying "I'd like to see you create a 400 page manual in word, with
graphics, tables etc.". Never heard another word from her.

Venting done, I feel better. Thanks for the outlet.
Dan
