Reminds me of a conversation I had with a CTO I once
reported to. I was writing API docs and migrating from
Smalltalk to C++ and he asked me what I was doing to learn
the language, so I told him that I was reading X and Y...
Then I commented, "luckily, I don't have to make it work,
I only need to know the concepts!"

He laughed and said, "I've done a lot of programming by just
tweaking an example until it works, without ever having to
learn the concepts!"

So, the answer to your question, John, is no -- just as many
programmers and end-users want to get from A to Z by the
shortest possible route. At least, that's been my experience.
