True, but you can't learn everything, and you will get far more points if
you pick the topics for your learning wisely. In the context of
employability as a tech writer seeking employment at a for-profit
organization, you'll get much farther with technical and business knowledge.

As I've written before, I found it a plus when a candidate knew something
about a field I had no knowledge in and wasn't even business related (or
wasn't related to *my* organization's business) - say, French literature.
That would give me the opportunity to ask them how they went about acquiring
that knowledge, and so on. But this was in a context where they also had
demonstrated technical knowledge and ability as a professional tech writer;
the French lit was something they had studied or picked up on the side and
showed a dedication to learning.
