I dunno. I read that as something akin to market-speak. The organizers of the conference have a topic, and in the promotional material that topic has to be hyped a bit.

They do this every year, and I don't get a feeling that there's any strict adherence to the "topic." So far as I know the proposals aren't evaluated against these paragraphs, nor are they rejected if they don't fall into the scope of what is said here.

I'd bet that the majority of conference presenters in Baltimore this year couldn't tell you what the equivalent description of this year's conference theme is.

<http://www.stc.org/52ndConf/Proposal/>

"The first looks inward at transforming STC to respond
effectively to changes in technology, business, and
professional roles."

"The second springs from an increasing focus on user
experience as part of the design and development
process. Communication is a critical element of this
work, whether the focus is on technical documentation,
Web sites, software interfaces, or wireless
applications, to name just a few."

Is it just me out on the bleeding edge or have a lot
of people been asleep lo these 51 (going on 52) years?
