OpenOffice 1.1 and newer are free and available for download.
Doesn't 1.1 include PDF creation?

You can upgrade/update in minutes.

There are a bunch of open-source tools for creating PDFs.
They are available from many sources pre-compiled (i.e., binaries)
for Linux and other UNICES. Nobody does that for SGI?
You could always roll your own, from source.

OpenOffice can export html, xml... what do you need/want?
