There is a local tech communicators association (TCANZ) who are pretty
lively so it's that I miss out on the action. There's also a national branch
of the STC but they tend to collaborate with TCANZ so there's no great
advantage in joining both. TCANZ is more active and 1/4 the price (I suspect
there's a correlation).

On the other hand there are some features of the STC (SIGs, publications)
that I *am* interested in and it'd be nice to be able to pay a reduced fee
for an online only membership. I can't see that it would cost the STC much
to administer that sort of arrangement.
