I think what your experiencing is a larger, cultural phenomena. The
institutionalization of fear and protection. Look at the culture you live in. A
place where liars are not only allowed to lie, but have entire media and
political parties organized to help further bigger and bigger lies. Is it any
wonder then, that companies must enact more and more elaborate mechanisms to
catch people who lie or mislead others.

Privacy - you have no privacy. And everyday what little you have gets shaved
away for "security purposes."

Remember, I work and make my livlihood in security. If it wasn't for people's
fears, I'd be out there writing docs again.

Honestly, the person you should be pointing the finger at is yourself. We allow
our leaders and our culture to become what it is. We allow corporations and
governments to do this to us. As long as we keep selecting leaders who
manipulate our fears and outright lie to us, the more people will follow this
example responding with lies and fear. And likewise the more "security
measures" we will have to jump through to protect us from the liars and crooks.

Its a positive feedback loop. And there really is only one way out. But, that's
another discussion for another coffee house.

Now, about that John Titor guy...
