The "got a different degree" answer was closest.
Hired direct from UC Davis with an Aeronautical/Mechanical
Engineering degree into Boeing as a Manufacturing

It was 20 years and a few jobs later (and after getting
laid off) that I realized that I was a Tech Writer.
Before that light bulb illuminated, I considered myself
a Mfg Enrg.

Developing and writing instructions on the detailed
steps to build a rocket component IS tech writing.

Now I write tech manuals for I/O hardware/software products.
