First of all, I should have said "RoboHTML", not "RoboHelp." RobotHelp runs in MS Word, and [Ctrl][Alt][-] gives you the em-dash.

For RoboHTML, the "winning answer" came from Mary Jo Dockman:

I use these in RoboHelp without any trouble. The em dash can be typed on an enhanced keyboard as Alt + 0151-that is, hold down the "alternate" key and type, using the numerical pad on the right side of the keyboard, the numbers 0151. The en dash can be typed as Alt + 0150. Some others:

© = Alt + 0169
® = Alt + 0174
(tm) = Alt + 0153

The key trick is to use the numeric keypad, and not just the regular numeric keys across the top of the keyboard. Also, be sure to keep the [Alt] key pressed down while typing all four numbers.

Thanks, Mary Jo.
