I wouldn't send out the original Word document. You could re-name the document you're sending out, so you don't accidentally overwrite your original. Might be a wise precaution.

Short answer - you can't. It is possible to make it harder for a user to
accidentally modify a document, but it is impossible to prevent a determined
user from deliberately modifying a document if he is intent on doing so.
Once the document leaves your PC it leaves your control.
