Personnally, I use single quotes to identify variables or other elements
in .txt files or in code comments. I find it's a good way to highlight
items that cannot be easily identified otherwise. That's my only
exception to the rule!!!

Example:

This method adds the 'Encoding option' field when no encoding option is
explicitely specified in the 'Content registration' file.
