Re: Journalism and Tech Writing
1-How Journalism can be linked to Technical Writing.
Computer journalism is not much different than technical writing. In both, you need subject matter expertise if you're going to do your job well.
The main difference is that, in computer journalism, you have to work harder to create an interest. In technical writing, you usually don't worry about interesting people; if they need the information, they'll read your work.
2-Can the two be linked at all.
No two types of writing are completely different from each other. Computer journalism and tech-writing can share common subject matter, but take a different approach to it.
3-What additional skills must aspiring Technical Writers with a
Journalism background have or develop.
Research and interviewing skills become even more important in journalism than in technical writing.
4-Can Technical Writing be a form of journalistic writing? If so how.
Usually, it shouldn't be. For example, one way that journalists can inject interest is by adding humor or a particular tone. While some people on this list would disagree, I don't think that humor has much place in technical writing, because it gets old quickly; what's funny the first time isn't so funny the eighth time. By contrast, an article isn't around for so long, so humor is more appropriate.
Similarly, technical writing usually assumes a neutral tone, while in journalism, a variety of tones can entice people to read.
